The outlook that you have on life can be greatly affected by your own self-esteem and self-image. It is generally accepted that women tend to view themselves more critically than men. But this doesn’t mean that some men don’t have very low self-esteem and are often not sure about what sort of clothes suit them, if they fit and if they are the right color. With clothing acting as a second skin, studies have shown that image consultants can have a positive effect on those that feel insecure about themselves and a little advice about a positive attitude to clothing and image can work wonders for anybody.

People who suffer from low self-esteem feel rejected, unworthy and negative and this can often lead to them feeling sidelined by their peers who cannot identify with their self defeating behavior. Oftentimes, it may even lead to depression. If you do feel like this, it’s important to try and pinpoint why you feel the way you do, it may sound simplistic but it’s important to attempt to turn every negative into a positive and recognize your capabilities as well as flaws.

Your self-image is a great place to start, accept compliments from people and don’t respond negatively. Take a look at yourself in the mirror and think about the things you do like about your body and your face and what ways you can enhance these features. Do you need a hair cut? Do you think you could change the style? Can you do anything to refine the way you look such as plucking and redefining your eyebrows?

With clothing being part of your identity its best advised to take a good look at what you have in your wardrobe. Do you know what styles and cuts suit you better? Does your favorite color really suit you? Invest some time in yourself and book an image consultant if you don’t feel sure. Most clothing stores now have image consultants that are relatively inexpensive and can advise what’s best for you. They can help you bring out your own identity and personality through the clothes that you wear and greatly improve your self esteem. If you are not comfortable discussing your image in detail with a stranger, then just ease up into it. Ask questions little by little which can help you improve your appearance.

Once you have sorted out your style make sure that you make the necessary effort after you have acquired your new wardrobe and don’t let yourself go. Make sure that your shirts are ironed with care and your pants are appropriately pressed, all the time. Make sure that your necktie is well aligned and that you add finishing touches such as a smart pair of cufflinks or a nice belt with polished shoes.

Making an effort with your personal appearance will reflect on your inner confidence and this in turn will not go unnoticed by others as it is far more appealing to be confronted by a self-assured, happy and positive person.
