Spectacular beauty of new natural World Heritage Sites

World Heritage Site is officially administered by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. It was founded to classify, name, and conserve cultural or natural sites which play an important role in the common heritage of humanity. In the following article, we will discover spectacular beauty of new natural World Heritage Sites. All of them are diverse in terrain, animals and plants, but remain natural attraction.


Phoenix Islands Protected Area is made up of Gilbert Islands, Line Islands and Phoenix Islands. It boasts for coral archipelagos along with 800 species of animals, 500 species of fish and 18 species of marine mammals. Phoenix Islands Protected Area was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list on August 1st, 2010.

Rainforests of Atsinanana was listed as a World Heritage Site in 2007.


Russia\’s Putorana Plateau in Xibiri has impressive natural beauty with more than 25,000 lakes, dozens of deep canyons, thousands of waterfalls as well as a system of rivers and creeks. The Putorana Nature Reserve was founded in 1988 in order to protect endangered species such as reindeers and bighorn sheep.


In July 2010, the Putorana Reserve was declared on the World Heritage List


Danxia Range in southwest China comprises spectacular red cliffs, natural pillars, waterfalls, ravines, towers and valley.


Located to the northwest of Hawaii, Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument covers 360.000 km2 of ocean waters. It is home to extensive coral reefs, lagoons, and deep-water mountains. It was widely believed by Hawaiians that this is the place where life originates and spirits return after death. Papahanaumokuakea was recognized on the World Heritage list at the 34th Session of the World Heritage Committee held on 30 July 2010 in Brasilia.

Central Highlands of Sri Lanka is home to rare animals including western purple-faced langurs, Horton Plains slender loris and Sri Lankan leopards.


La Réunion National Park, established on March 5th 2007, has the area of 100,000 hectares on the island of Réunion in the western Indian Ocean region. Tourists go there to admire sharp mountain peaks and subtropical rain forests. The national park is the habitat of rare animals and plants.

Everglades National Park, the third largest national park with the area of 6,105 km2, was in UNESCO’s danger list in 1993. However, thanks to renewed efforts, it was taken off the list in 2007.
