It seems a trend that the Japanese often love horror movies with scary characters that make the audience’s hair stand on end. A survey on 1000 Japanese men and women listed their top 10 scary characters in horror films.

Jigsaw (Saw)

Jigsaw, an unusual murder, kills his victims by creating deadly tests his subjects.




Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street)

Freddy Krueger can attack his victims from within their own dreams. He has a burned, disfigured face, red and dark green striped sweater, brown fedora, and trademark metal-clawed brown leather glove.

Yotsuya Kaidan is a tale of betrayal, murder and ghostly revenge. Oiwa betrayed and poisoned by her husbands comes back as a ghost to seek vengeance.
